Art and Representation/Narrative

representation in art is used to reflect the arbitrary conditions of perception, or manipulate ideology or sense of reality. Given all the things that representative work can do, is there a place for abstraction anymore?

Is representation in art a better way to engage the audience or is it just an easier way to garner attention?

Is it possible to create narrative without representation?

Can a strong narrative function the same way as a strong formalist work?

Does representation in art inevitably include narrative?
